Last night I watched an industrial designer put his engineering mind to work by bringing a medical project to life on the Milling Machine. A complete pleasure to watch as he weaved the machine like a pen around the product as it was taking shape in front of us.

The bit and material are monitored during the first cut to ensure tight tolerances are maintained during the sweep.

The mill bed is manoeuvred into position using a numerically controlled three axis panel, switchable between metric and Imperial measurements within thousandths of and inch and micrometers.
The material is then placed in the mill vice, levelled, tightened and tapped with a hammer to ensure the seating has solid purchase on the material. At this point the mill can be programmed to run its sweep based on the instructions of the operator.
